toby is four

It’s Toby’s fourth birthday today which has been the subject of much anticipation and excitement. It seems to be a real milestone for him – four is much bigger than three in his world. He’s been telling us lots of things which four year olds do which three year olds don’t, including liking salad and avocado – we’ll see how that works out in the next few days.

He came through to our room in the night, about three thirty, and mournfully said, “But, Daddy, am I big yet?”. I told him no, he should go back to sleep and give it another three hours.

Sam has always been very keen on using age to put things off – “I’ll be able to do X when I’m 4″. Of course it’s now 5, but we live in hope.

And a very Happy Birthday to him! To celebrate, I ate haggis and drank whisky as is traditional.

I keep telling my boss “I’ll be able to do some work once I’m 27″. Three months to go…

  3. My best birthday wishes to Toby too.

I wonder what I’ll be able to do when I’m 35?
