We were watching the ice dancing from the Winter Olympics (which (the Olympics) have been considerably better than I expected) last night. Not a bad competition and surprisingly fun to watch. However, when the French couple, who went on to win gold, were starting up, the commentator on NBC said that he objected to how they were going to use a recording of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, and how he found it inappropriate. However, the piece was about the triumph of freedom and justice, and to my mind was quite respectful and inspired. I’m sure there have been worse uses of King’s inspiring speeches; also if it means more people are going to be exposed to hearing about justice then surely it can only be a good thing.
