staying awake

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003

About 4 o’clock last night/this morning we were woken by the sound of sirens and amplified voices. It seemed that there was a fire in an apartment building along the block, and it was quite noisy. I don’t think it was too bad as I haven’t found anything in the papers about it, but if it was inconvenient and unpleasant for us, it must have been way worse for the people who live in the building. Fortunately Toby didn’t wake up – in fact he went to sleep before 10 last night and was still asleep when I left the house at 7:50 this morning.

weekend work

Monday, June 2nd, 2003

Got plenty done over a very pleasant weekend. A fair bit more gardening, and we’ve put more edging up around the garden path, which looks a lot more cared for. Still working on clearing the front garden a bit – the main challenge is some massive creeper/vine thing which is taking over the whole area. It’s hard to remove as it has endless roots under the ground, but we’ll work on it. Also I finished painting the garage door – I mentioned last week how it had grafitti on it, but it’s looking much better now:
